Subsea NEXUS Oslo Conference 2025

ITU/WMO/UNESCO-IOC Joint Task Force Ambassador, Dr. Matt Fouch, Ph.D., member of the Science and Society committee, presented the SMART Cables initiative at the Subsea NEXUS Oslo 2025 conference.

In a region where robust observation is urgently needed, Dr. Fouch spotlighted how SMART Cables integrating sensors into commercial telecom infrastructure can enhance ocean monitoring, climate science, and disaster resilience.

He was joined by leading voices from Space Norway, NORDUnet, Far North Digital, National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), DLA Piper and others to explore the future of connectivity, geopolitics, and environmental intelligence in the high north.
